The course will provide SME managers, owners, technicians, and job seekers with a comprehensive introduction to location data interoperability in the context of EU data policies.

Managers will gain insight into integrating location data into business strategies and assessing its impact on digital transformation. Technicians will focus on technical applications, including implementing INSPIRE requirements, aligning with FAIR principles, and addressing data space challenges.

For managers

The course introduces SME managers and owners to the concepts and implications of location data interoperability, making them aware of the related technological and non-technological development and trends in the context of the EU data policies framework. At the end of the course, the participants will learn how to integrate location data in their businesses and to evaluate the impact of location data interoperability on the Digital Transformation strategy of their organisations.

More information

The course is made up of 9 lectures with different durations. At the end of each lecture, 2/3 quizzes are provided to participants, to support their learning process and help consolidating the Learning Objectives associated to that lecture. At the end of the course, an exercise with the tutor is foreseen. Achievement of learning outcomes defined at course level will be assessed by means of a written examination.

  1. Introduction to data interoperability (45 min.)
  2. Data policies and initiatives (30 min)
  3. European Interoperability Framework (15 min.)
  4. Data spaces (15 min.)
  5. INSPIRE (15 min.)
  6. Location frameworks (15 min.)
  7. Data interoperability standards (15 min.)
  8. Location data interoperability challenges & trends (30 min.)
  9. Exercise (120 min.)

The course duration is 5 hours.

  • Understand the context, the concepts and challenges of data interoperability in general and location interoperability in particular.
  • Understand the major EU data policy instruments related to data interoperability.
  • Recognise the major technological and non-technological developments related to location data interoperability.
  • Evaluate how location data interoperability may impact the Digital Transformation strategy of your organisation.

PowerPoint presentations, video recordings, quizzes, material for the final exercise.

For technicians

The course introduces technicians and job seekers to the technical concepts and implications of location data interoperability. It will allow to analyse the impact of the implementation of INSPIRE requirements and recommendations on the SDI components (metadata, data and services). It will also explain how to comply to High Value Datasets Regulation, to be aligned to the FAIR data management principles and to tackle the data space challenges. At the end of the course, the participants will learn how to apply the main GI standards and good practices enabling location data interoperability.
